in the fate 2: Beyond the lightBungie recently revealed a connection between two old school Destiny characters: the evil tech magnate Clovis Bray and absent-minded tower gunsmith Banshee-44.
After the players complete the Deep Stone Crypt Raid, Banshee-44 had a request. He wanted the players to recreate a lost sword from him and help the forgetful gunsmith regain some of his lost memories. And at the end of that search, Banshee-44 and the Guardians discovered that the long-dead Clovis Bray had been reborn as a lovable gunsmith years ago.
How can these two opposite signs exist as the same being? Some hidden Fate 2 Tradition tells the story.
Who is Banshee-44?
in the fate and Fate 2Banshee-44 sits behind his table in the tower, polishing various weapons. He was the Armsday seller in the original game, selling both guns and mods in Fate 2.
Banshee-44 is a Exo, a robot with the spirit of a living human uploaded into its consciousness. Banshee-44 and other notable exos like Saint-14 and Cayde-6 – are not biologically human, but other characters treat them as humans because they have the spirit and personality of someone who previously existed. Banshee-44 is gruff (voiced by John DiMaggio, Marcus Fenix of Gears of War and Futurama
Aside from his friendly demeanor and scratchy personality, Banshee-44’s defining characteristic is his forgetfulness. The 44 in his name indicates how often his program has been restarted – especially much higher than Saint’s 14 or Cayde’s Six. Each restart takes up his memory, and each restart makes it harder to remember his short-term experiences for himself.
Before the quest “Lost Lament”, Banshee-44’s bad memory was played for a few belly strokes in previous exotic quests. When Cayde-6 died by Uldren Sov in Destiny 2: abandonedBanshee-44 challenged the players to recover Cayde’s beloved Ace of Spades hand cannon from his killer. Banshee-44 then helped the player fix Ace, vowing not to forget his friend. But even now, Banshee occasionally asks the guards if they’ve seen Cayde recently.
A year and a year ago after Cayde-6’s death, Banshee-44 asked the players to find Cayde-6 and asked him how he could find Banshee’s secret workshop so that the Guardians could acquire the Leviathan Breathbow – something that Banshee himself had forgotten. The guards then had to find it themselves, as no one wanted to see Banshee-44 relive Cayde’s death.
But with the quest “Lost Lament” Bungie gave a purpose to the tragic memory of Banshee-44.
Who is Clovis Bray?
Unlike Banshee-44, Clovis Bray was a real bastard.
Clovis, a human, founded BrayTech Corporation, which was responsible for developing numerous technologies during the Golden Age. Some of Clovis’s best-known contributions include the Warmind Rasputin and every exo in the game.
Clovis was a genius, but also a monster. He experimented with his dying son and numerous grandchildren – two of whom are other famous figures of fate: Elsie Bray (the exo stranger) and Ana Bray.
Clovis created its last research facility on Europewhere Elsie joined him as his reluctant assistant. On Europe, Clovis examined what he “Clarity control, “Which players know better than that Darkness. Due to the influence of Clarity Control, he took advantage of the To annoy Create exos.
Elsie and Clovis encountered Europe on a Vex invasion that forced them both to die with their human bodies when uploading their consciousnesses in Exos. Clovis, of course, let his granddaughter go first to make sure the procedure was working properly.
After the upload, Clovis was created in two parts. The first was the Clovis AI, which continued to operate the Deep Stone Crypt, where Clovis conducted his experiments. The second was Clovis-1, Clovis’ custom exo-body. And due to the ongoing Vex threat to Europe, the two were never properly synchronized, allowing Clovis-1 to work independently.
How can Banshee-44 and Clovis Bray be the same person?
During “Lost Lament” the players reactivate the Clovis AI and learn how Clovis-1 became Banshee-44.
The mourning sword belonged to Clovis-1 through Clovis-43. He picked up waves and waves of Vex on Europe along with the exo-stranger and ran away with them The lawsuit. During this battle, the Deep Stone Crypt restarted Clovis 42 times and he was nicknamed “Banshee” due to his ferocious fighting style.
After the fight, Clovis-43 worked with Elsie to take out the Clovis AI. When Clovis lived as an exo, his new self through his relationship with Elsie realized how much damage Clovis had done Bray as a man. Clovis-43 wanted to spare Elsie from a relationship with herself and hoped to turn a new page. He asked Elsie to start it again and give it a new life and name. She restarted him as Banshee-44 – this time with no memory of his previous self – the exo we know and love. But all reboots took their toll, and Banshee’s memory would never fully recover.
After the guards put the lawsuit back in his hands, he regains some of his memories, at least temporarily. With his fighting days behind him, he passes the sword on to the guards and vows to visit the Clovis AI on Europa before he can forget it again. After that conversation, the Clovis AI suggests that it could try to subdue Banshee-44 and get him back into the Clovis fold.
Banshee-44 represents the potential good in Clovis Bray, the baggage-free genius. If the Clovis AI could infiltrate the Banshee we know, his personality could be completely overridden and replaced with the Clovis AI – bringing him back to the basic form of Clovis that Banshee has run away from in 43 resets.
But he didn’t get the nickname Banshee for free, and he may still have a good fight within himself.
