“Destroy Ganondorf“is the last main quest in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The quest gives you a clear objective: you must find Ganondorf and destroy him. But even the path to becoming the Demon King presents its own challenge (certainly one of the most difficult in the game).
In this walkthrough, we will cover every step on your way up to the final battle Hyrule Castle Abyss by the Forgotten Foundation and the fight against it Army of the Demon King. If you’re just looking for advice on how to emerge victorious in the boss battle, our guide to defeating the Demon King Ganondorf is for you.
How to reach Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom
Your goal is to reach the chamber where the game began and put an end to the Demon King once and for all. if you were there Hyrule Castle in Heaven (which you may have done in your quest for the Royal Guard armor), start at Serutabomac Shrine and jump to ground level.
If not, start at Lookout Landing and head north toward Hyrule Castle. Open the gates with Ultrahand and continue north until you reach the yawning chasm where the castle once stood.
Once there, save the game. We’ll be speeding this up effectively, but you can stop and fight as many baddies as you like.
Hyrule Castle Abyss
Get on.
When you get off you will see this Camboture’s Lightroot to the north (this is really easy to spot if you start at Serutabomac Shrine as it’s right below). Hit it to clear the darkness from your map.
At the bottom of the chasm, turn south. There are three Shock Likes in this cave. Run, jump and slide past them to find a chamber with five Black horror blinds in – further south, climb the wall (you can test it if you have two full endurance bikes).
You will find five above Electric Keese – Kill these quickly, and then slowly approach the slope to the south to spot one Silver Lynel. These are really tough, even though they don’t have Gloomwreath attached.
So look to the left to see where the path continues and keep gliding.
Proceed further down the corridor and the floor beneath you will begin to sink. That’s okay – fall down. In the next chamber you will see a few falling blocks. Jump on one and remember your way back up.
Their march south turns west. Follow the corridor into another atrium. On your right is the Lynel you just avoided. There is a pile on your left likes frost And frost cheese. Again, feel free to parry or dodge at will, but if you get past them you’ll find yourself on another falling platform. (What did Ganon do to the place?!)
As you tumble down, you’ll face a couple of Lizalfos and this discouraging message stating that the power of the sages is unattainable. Yeah, you’re on your own boy…
It’s worth taking out those two – start with the silver one, as he has an electric weapon which complicates things unnecessarily. When you’re done, loot the east room for a few powerful Zonaite weaponsA powerful construct bowand a powerful Zonai shield.
By the way, this is a good place to save the game.
If you look north, there is one Silver Moblin Patrolling the other side of a broken bridge.
If you approach, two Chuchus will appear. Defeat them, but be careful how you proceed. The last part of the passageway disintegrates when you step on it and something emerges Gloomy hands.
they do not If you want to fight them, turn around, grab the wing in the west wing and use it to cross the gap. If you’re having trouble building Zonai devices, a rocket on the back will certainly help.
Walk past the Moblin and follow the path to the left. All of this should sound very familiar.
Forgotten Foundation
Walk past the glowing stone to find one Silver Bokoblin waiting at the bottom of the stairs. Take it out, because the corridor beyond holds four Gibdo and ends in a breakable wall.
Punch through and run into the next room. This will not only return you to the visible map, but also to a room that you will remember from the beginning of the game.
When you’re done, face east and follow the corridor to the prison chamber and jump in Gloom’s Lair. Grab Zelda’s Torch if you’re the sentimental type like us.
Attention: When you get this location, You have reached the point of no return.
We highly recommend attaching a Travel Medallion (Teleport Pad) here in case things go wrong. It also means you can now teleport away to stock up on any recovery items you used along the way and restore any gloomy hearts you may have.
Click the jump prompt, slide down, and sit back.
An audience with the Demon King
After a short cutscene with the Avengers of Hyrule (aka Your Wise Men making a flashy appearance), the action begins.
There are three phases, each divided into several parts. It wouldn’t be a final level if there weren’t tons of different levels, right?
Defeat the Demon King’s army
Luckily, as the Wind Sage points out, you don’t have to fight alone and the power of the sages is with you again.
You will face a veritable army Boko blinds of all shapes and sizes, up to and including a Boss Bokoblin. There is a joint health bar at the top of the screen.
As you defeat enemies, this bar will decrease. New enemies appear at certain intervals. Here is a brief overview:
- 100% Army Health – Bokoblin Army
- 50% Army Health – Lizalfos Army
- 25% Army Health – Gibdo Army
- 20% Army Health – Moblin Army
There are no real tactics here other than fighting things the way you normally fight them! Make good use of dodges and flurry rushes and you’ll be fine. If they have shields, hit them with a weapon that has a shock transmitter attached.
After defeating the Demon King’s army
We call this detention because it’s totally avoidable if you do your homework.
If you have all five sages, you don’t have to do this; However, if you skipped the Sages, you now have to fight the bosses in each of their respective temples and add one gigantic Difficulty setting for an already tricky fight.
Yes, you have to fight them all one by one. No, your health will not recover and your gloomy hearts will not recover. Oh, and you don’t have the support you would have had you fought in the temple and secured the help of the sages.
If you’ve already defeated the bosses, instead you’ll see a scene where they all appear together. Your sages step forward and finish them off while you’re shielded, ready for the final phase: the actual fight against Ganon.
Follow the path to the chamber at the end. Here begins the final showdown against Demon King Ganondorf.
