Spector, the co-creator and designer of many popular PC games including deus ex, recently sat down and spoke with VentureBeat about his career and future. During this interview he was asked about it NFTs and the blockchain. And he didn’t really mince words about how he felt, telling the outlet the whole concept was just “ridiculous.”
“This is where I’m going to get in trouble,” Spector said VentureBeat. “I’m literally going to have people giving me hell about what I’m going to say, but I really don’t think I care. NFTs are ridiculous.”
He continued, explaining that he doesn’t understand why anyone would want to “hop on this train.” He also said the idea that people own virtual goods that can be unlimited and inBeing constantly reproduced was a bad idea that made people question who would think otherwise.

If it comes up with the idea of a digital, all-encompassing metaverse include virtual reality and the internet wasn’t so quick to count it out or call it a bad idea. However, he said he just doesn’t like the concept, adding that he gave up social media a few years ago and that the metaverse seems to be more of it. Although he admitted that one day the metaverse might happen, especially as large companies like Facebook are pouring buckets of money into it. But it will be a long time before it is fully established, for which Spector is grateful.
“The Metaverse, sure, maybe someday,” Spector said. “BBut honestly, It will be a long time before I’m gone. I’m happy about that. I like living in the real world.”
