Discord & # 39; s Go Live streaming and screen sharing features are usually limited to 10 users, but in the "next few months" they will be increased to 50 to take people who want to "connect" (or do their homework) while under coronavirus shutdown.
The company announced an increase earlier today, saying it would end "at a time of great need".
In a completed statement is posted on Discord's blog, founder Jason Citron writes:
We follow COVID-19 stories as much as you do, and our hearts go out to those affected. We also know that many people who are not directly affected by the virus are still seeing their lives disrupted, including school closures, cancellations of public meetings and small businesses struggling to keep jobs going.
We heard a lot of you in the last few weeks. People – especially in areas affected by COVID-19 – have been using Discord to keep in touch and stay in touch with their daily lives, commuting to classes and away from work.
We wanted to find a way to help, so we're temporarily increasing our Go Live limit to 50 people at a time, from 10. Go Live Live is free to use and allows people to stream privately or share workloads from a computer with others watching from any device – so that teachers can run the classroom, collaborators can collaborate, and groups can meet. You can learn more about how to get started with Go Live here.
While we have created Discord to bring people together in games, we are very happy that many of you use it in many different ways. We will keep the user's maximum limit as long as it is in high demand – hopefully it makes people & # 39; s easy and less stressful each day.
Finally, because we anticipate a breakdown in the need for Go Live, we hope you put up with it in the event you encounter work problems.
Very good, Discord.
