While you might not expect a Disney-themed kart racing game to be the subject of much controversy, Disney Speedstorm has made some changes to his progression that have upset fans so much that some are is considering legal action. Developer Gameloft has touted these changes as helpful for people who want to earn in-game rewards more quickly, but that’s dwarfed by the team putting content that was previously earnable by playing the game behind a real-world currency -Paywall provides.
The buzz started when Gameloft released an update about it officially Disney Speedstorm
Starting with the game Destroy it Ralph-Themed seventh season on April 17, but the Premium Golden Pass is only available through a direct purchase for $9.99 or $19.99 with a tier jump. Going forward, there will also be two Golden Passes each season, meaning you’ll have to pay twice to get everything you can unlock each season. As Gameloft puts it, the trade-off is that players can progress through the Golden Pass with half the XP required, making unlocking racers and items easier than before. But even though not everyone likes to grind, no one likes to pay for something they used to get for free.
There will still be a free tier of unlockable rewards, but not every reward (including playable racers) will be available without payment. Disney Speedstorm has only been out for about a year, counting the early access launch in April 2023, but that’s long enough for fans to get used to the time and money investment it takes to do everything to experience what the game has to offer. Putting a regular fee into something that used to be free to purchase worked as expected. At the moment it is Speed Storm
In addition, there are some players Discussion of a possible class action lawsuit Given the language used to describe in-game currency Support And Store pageswhich specifically states that tokens can be used to purchase the Golden Pass.
We’ve reached out to Gameloft for comment on the situation and will update the story when we hear back.
