Disney Had a big event last week which I honestly put up with for announcements how avatar games and extraterrestrial Games that aren’t isolation Consequence are not really for me. However, one thing they didn’t really cover and that I wish they had done in much more detail was the excellent News, the classics platformer gargoyle gets a remaster.
Released for Genesis in 1995, gargoyle was based on the animated series of the same name and like many other Disney games of the time –Aladdin and Lion King especially despite being developed by different studios– was not only famous for his platforming action, but also for how Nice it was.
Look at that. Just look at it!
Everything about it is Sega Genesis, mid-’90s perfection. The way the backgrounds envelop the player, the flickering of the torchlight, the scrolling on the move plane, argh it’s all so good. And the entertainment! It’s amazing.
Anyway, enough of being sentimental, you have the idea. This game was great as well gargoyle was never the popular, and neither was this licensed adaptation, despite their similar pedigree has never been remembered so fondly as, shall we say, Aladdin.
Maybe that will change soon, because hidden in Disney’sSummary press release from last week reads:
Gargoyle’s Remastered: The classic 90’s platformer comes to modern consoles and PCs in collaboration with Empty Clip Studios with updated graphics and controls.
G/O Media may receive a commission
$663 total value
Humble Bundle 2K Megahits Game Bundle for Covenant House
Providing shelter and supportive services to youth affected by homelessness
A number of games from 2K have been bundled together. You can pay whatever you want to support the cause, but if you want access to some of the big hits like Borderlands 3, The Bioshock Collection, XCOM: The Ultimate Collection, and Sid Meier’s Civilizatrion VI, you’ll need to pay at least $16. But hey, that’s hardly anything compared to the $663 value you get from all 18 games combined.
That’s cool! I’m always suspicious of attempts to take classic games and give them “updated graphics”. —Death before all upscaling filters—So hopefully there remains an option to play it the way it was originally designed and conceived. Although I’d like to contradict myself immediately, the controls and movement feel like the original also sucks, so attempts to add “updated controls” won’t be as controversial.
