Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian has one excellent cast of charactersalmost all of whom are new to the series. However, it looks like there were once plans to have some characters from previous games appear as party members. And now that fans know this, they are in their feelings.

The news of this comes from the Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian Art bookwhich is out now and is full of spoilers. But we won’t go into everything that actually happens in the game here. So don’t worry about that. But there are pages of concept art for hypothetical party members that didn’t land The Veil Guardian. Some were new, unnamed characters, such as a chain-clad Qunari mage and a tattooed Antivan crow. But there is one character in the book who would have been a return from the 2014s Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, she was not an ally. In fact, depending on your decisions in your playthrough, you could end up killing them. This was Magister Calpernia, who once led the Venatori mages against the player in one of them inquisition‘s routes.

According to the art book, Calpernia was a potential Party member at some point The Veil Guardian‘s development. She is shown in concept art wearing royal armor, specifically with a prosthetic leg. Neve, one of the party members that made it into the game, is a mage with a prosthetic leg, so it seems like some of these concepts have been adapted for this character.

Logistically, it makes sense that BioWare would scrap this idea since Calpernia exists in so many different quantum states depending on the player’s choice. But that hasn’t stopped fans from being upset that an underrated fan-favorite villain didn’t make the cut The Veil Guardian.

Personally, I have little connection to Calpernia because I have never met her in my life inquisition Play through. The only way to get her to show up is to recruit the Templars in the first act of the game, and I’m a professional magician who tried to snog Dorian. So Calpernia and I never met. But it’s always fun to know who might have joined the party at some point. I mean, unless knowing this information bothers you. But Calpernia could still appear in the future Dragon Age game, assuming BioWare allows players to make decisions about what happened to her.
