Joji Yanami was a mainstay in the Dragon ball Franchise. During his career he voiced a number of Dragon ball Characters, as well as the narrator of the anime. His agency Aoni Production announced that the veteran voice actor died on December 3rd at the age of 90.
Nikkan Sports reports that a private memorial service was held for his family members. Aoni Production wrote that it wanted to express its sincere thanks to Yanami for his kindness during his lifetime.
Tokyo-born Yanami began his career in the 1960s, speaking characters in Wolf Cub Ken, Osomatsu-kun, Cyborg 009, and the Moomin Anime. During the following decade, he landed roles in Ashita no Joe, Devilman, Mazinger Z, and Sweet Honey. Yanami also spoke in Gennai Digimon and a handful of characters in Time in Bokan.
But maybe his is best remembered Dragon ball work. In 1986 he started work on the first anime series in which he introduced the narrator, Dr. Briefs, King, Dr. Frappe and Mousee spoke. for Dragon Ball Z, He would retell the show, speak the characters Kaio-sama (aka King Kai), and add Bobbidi to his lineup DB Voices.
His newest Dragon ball Work consisted of pronouncing and narrating Kaio-sama for Dragonball Super in 2015. In the same year he also composed for Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’. Yanami would take extended leave, the roles would be re-cast, and these performances were his last, completing a work that had been written over five decades.
Yanami’s career included so much anime history – from the time anime came into its own power to the time it really went global. He had an amazing career, speaking a variety of memorable characters in what has become a classic anime.
