Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom’s latest high fantasy action RPG, lets you experience romance with all sorts of non-player characters. From the city guide to the city jester, from the brothel keeper to the young blacksmith – there is a lot of love in the air between you as the Awakened and the many NPCs in the game. You can’t romanticize the farmersHowever, a disappointing fact for the many players who beg to go out with their loyal minions.

In Dragon’s Dogma 2You can increase yours Affinity level with almost everyone you come into contact with. When you do something for the characters you meet, they like you more, which strengthens their bond with you for the game’s romance system. Save an elf’s sister from a rampaging ogre? This elf will be in love with you and maybe ask you out on a date at some point. Give a bouquet of flowers to an herbalist? Likewise, this herbalist will develop an affection for you. Unfortunately, farmers, the (mostly) obedient followers of the game that you create or post are not part of this love equation. No matter what you do, whether you travel far and wide with them or shower them with gifts, they will never be romantic. Although such actions increase their affinity for you, some players still want to have an affair with their loyal followers.
“Why can’t we romanticize our farmers,” asked Redditor floopydoop90 a post on r/DragonsDogma This is slowly gaining traction. “We spent every second together. They welcome us to our beds after a rest. We create them using an incredibly robust character creator. There may be beneficial combat or support buffs if you have romanced your pawn. Greater heals, stronger attacks when done together.”
“Are farmers romantic now?” asked Redditor Talia_Rosethorn in r/DragonsDogma a video of their main pawn blushing when they speak. “My girl is showing symptoms of maximum affinity and there have been hardly any posts about it.”
“I spent 50k changing hairstyles and hair colors and now my main character turns red when we talk,” said Redditor Infamous_Touch2339 a picture of their main pawn blushing just like Talia_Rosethorn did. “Is there a hidden romance with farmers?”
Similar to the 2012 game, you cannot romance pawns Dragon’s Dogma 2. There is no explicit reason, although the theory is that you can’t date them because their only goal is to help you, the Awakened, regain what is rightfully yours, and it might be a bit strange if the game would let you date someone who lacks soul and will. Still, that hasn’t stopped one Redditor from arguing that there’s evidence that the Arisen and their vassals aren’t keeping things strictly platonic.
“Players are always alone with their main characters in their own houses, sleeping at the same time and most likely sleeping on the same bed, plus main characters sometimes blush before and after sleeping,” Redditor TianAnMen_8964 theorized a long post on r/Dragons Dogma. “I think the clue here is crystal clear. Of course you can still think the opposite in your head, but I don’t think that’s the case [deny] the hints. And yes, I would like a Pawn Romance update, how did you know?”

I wondered the same thing when I once woke up to see my main pawn hovering over me in bed, talking with flushed cheeks about how much he loved the “quiet moments” he shared with me. However, it’s kind of strange because my Pawn is modeled after my cat, and there’s no way I would want to date or sleep with my cat, no matter how much she saves me from dragon grab attacks. We’re just partners killing monsters. Nothing more. After all, I’m just the awakened one, not the bachelor.
