The Coen brothers take a break to make films themselves for a while. In 2021, Joel Coen directed his adaptation of Macbeth, a somber, brilliantly directed black-and-white version starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. Now it’s Ethan’s turn with the first trailer drive-away dolls
The story follows Jamie and Marian, two friends on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, where they encounter a typically Coen Brothers-esque cast of absurd and inept criminals and very memorable supporting characters.
Even better, according to Ethan Coen himself, this film is only 83 minutes long, a perfect length for any film and just the first of a trilogy of queer B movies he’s working on.
drive-away dolls Also starring are Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp and Beanie Feldstein. In addition to directing the film, Ethan Coen also co-wrote the film, along with Tricia Cooke, frequent editor for the Coen Brothers.
drive-away dolls is scheduled for release on September 22nd.
