Earlier this year, the independent streamer announced that it would do what no real play had done before: play Dungeons & Dragons on the most famous stage in the world. This plan was met with controversy as the overwhelming influx of fans to the site triggered Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing model. Prices for tickets ranging from $80 to $200 and above rose to as much as $2,500, sparking outrage among the fan base.
In response, Dropout released a statement saying that the average ticket sold was $119 – with the “dynamic pricing nonsense” only impacting a fraction of sales. The same declaration introduced the Dimensioneer ticket lottery system, which would give fans who may have been excluded from the event the opportunity to see the show at a low price. Dropout also initially stated that it would forgo using the dynamic pricing model for its upcoming West Coast Tour – although it later clarified that 150 tickets to the Hollywood Bowl show would be subject to dynamic pricing. Information on Twitter that “100% of proceeds (less fees)” would be donated to the LA County Parks Foundation.
Entry into the lottery for a limited number of $35 tickets is open until November 17 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The lucky winners will be notified by email on the evening of November 22nd Dimension 20According to a post on social media, Dimensioneer’s seating will be randomly assigned throughout the venue, including “upper level” and “ground level” seating. Winners won’t know how they’ll see the stage – the company says ticket locations for Dimensioneer won’t be announced until the night of the show.
