The good news first: The classic from EA Ice skate 2 is one of over 70 games to make the Xbox Series X / S backward compatibility list. The bad news? It will miss its online multiplayer shortly after, as EA shuts down the game’s servers next month.
In some sort of move I can’t remember ever seeing before, the officer Ice skate Account somehow managed to get the “good news / bad news” thing in a single tweet + reply and get this masterpiece out this morning:
Just look at these tweets. Perfectly balanced as everything should be.
This is not catastrophe; I would guess most people probably played Ice skate in single player, and that this pattern would likely continue during a renaissance in 2021. After all, that decision would not be made out of thin air and is likely based on data that says “no one ever plays this game online”. The game’s Create-a-Spot feature, for example, seems to have been dead since 2014although fans occasionally urge EA to do so.
But that was before it was brought back to life on the X / S series, and with the interest in the series picking up again after that the announcement of the new game, it might have been cool to at least give it Ice skate 2 a few more months before unplugging. After all, it’s been almost 13 years since the game was first released, what difference would have made another six months?
