I thought we were done with the base Elden Ring narrative and had moved on to finding out instead The Shadow of the Earth Tree Hints Director Hidetaka Miyazaki stayed behind. But it turns out that FromSoftware’s magnum opus is really an endless treasure trove of cool lore and interesting stories, as a dataminer recently picked out and reconstructed an alternate introduction to the game that changes things slightly.

As discovered by IGN, Elden Ring Dataminer Sekiro Dubi has discovered that the game originally started with you washing up on a beach, rather than waking up in The Stranded Graveyard and trudging to the Cave of Knowledge. Elden Ring Players know that the game throws you into the de facto tutorial area after you (most likely) die to the Grafted Scion boss in the Chapel of Expectation. However, in a YouTube video from March 6thSekiro Dubi reveals this in the “Original Elden Ring FromSoft’s “starting point” that they restored actually intended your macerated body to arrive on a sandy beach beneath the Seaside Ruins. According to a cutscene pieced together by Sekiro Dubi after combing through in-game files, this is where you would first be introduced to Melina and Torrent.

The dialogue doesn’t change all that much, although there are a few new lines here and there. However, the starting point itself is completely new. Instead of taking control of your Tarnished in the Stranded Graveyard like you do in the retail version of Elden RingSekiro Dubi showed that at one point in the game’s development you encountered an enemy, a mercenary and his wolf, on the beach before turning into a cave that led you to the Stranded Graveyard. According to Sekiro Dubi’s findings, all of this can even be found on the game’s network test maps, suggesting that Stormveil Castle used to have a teleport that took you back to the Chapel of Anticipation. The (Elden Ring) The world really is round, right?
