In fact, Patch 1.12.3 is releasing a series of balance changes that address a number of Shadow of the Earth Treethe new weapons and Ash of War abilities, including a popular build that players used to defeat the expansion’s difficult final boss.
While the latest update includes a whole host of nerfs, the most impactful changes involve the new Perfume Bottles and the special Ash of War called Rolling Sparks. When paired with the Lighting and/or Frenzyflame Perfume Bottle, the build could vaporize enemies pretty quickly and even one-shot them in some cases.

This build became a particularly popular tool for players who were stuck in the last boss fight of the DLC against Promised Husband Radahnthat hits like a damn truck and somehow requires you to use a cheese strategy – which are often referred to as cheap tricks because they rely on overpowered builds or exploit flaws in the game.
Now players have to go back to defeating Radahn the good old way. The update also weakens the Swift Slash Ash of War (thank goodness) due to his above-Effectiveness in PvP as well as the new shock shield weapons that were becoming increasingly popular. While many new weapons have been nerfed, the Carian Sorcery Sword’s Intelligence has actually been increased, although its overall attack damage has been lowered somewhat. Although the balance changes in this patch are focused on weapons, it also makes life a little easier during two of the DLC’s more challenging boss fights. - Fixed a bug where a successful block during an attack with the Shock Shield weapon consumed less stamina than intended.
- Fixed a bug that prevented players from canceling attack recovery from strong two-handed attacks by rolling dice for certain Backhand Blades weapons.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Lightning Perfume Bottle and Frenzyflame Perfume Bottle weapons to deal double damage under certain circumstances.
- Fixed a bug where the Bloodfiend’s Arm weapon’s arcane scaling was higher than intended when setting an affinity. The Heavy Attack’s status build has also been reduced.
- Fixed a bug where the Gazing Finger weapon’s faith scaling was not being applied correctly.
- Fixed a bug where the damage animation of some Fire Knight Greatsword attacks against players was different than expected.
- Fixed a bug where the attack affinity of some Fire Knight Greatsword attacks was different than expected.
- Fixed a bug that caused some affinities for the following weapons to be higher than intended:
- Smithscript DaggerSmithscript CirqueSmithscript AxeSmithscript GreathammerSmithscript SpearGolem FistSmithscript Shield
- Fixed a bug that caused enemies to be healed when the gradual HP reduction effect applied by Black Knife Tiche wore off the maximum HP reduction.
- Fixed a bug that caused summoned NPCs to behave differently than expected under certain circumstances.
- Fixed a bug where the Golden Hippo boss’s unblockable bite attack hit players more easily than intended.
- Fixed a bug that caused text to display differently than expected.
- Several other performance improvements and bug fixes.
Possible unstable performance corrections
- On the PS5 version of the game, an unstable frame rate may be able to be improved by using the “Rebuild Database” option in the device’s Safe Mode.
- On some PC versions, Ray Tracing may be inadvertently enabled and cause unstable performance. Please check the Ray Tracing setting under “System” > “Graphics Settings” > “Ray Tracing Quality” on the title screen or in-game menu.
- In the PC version, the message “Inappropriate activity detected” can appear without cheating.
To resolve this issue, please verify the integrity of the game files before restarting the game.
- In the PC version, unstable frame rate may be caused by third-party applications that control mouse behavior. Disabling these third-party applications may improve performance.
