FromSoftware games are known for being opaque, but sometimes they are it’s legitimately just a bug. Case in point: the Opaline Hardtear, a small bullet point The massive PVP-centric Tuesday elden ring patch.
After defeating the Avatar of the Rotten Tree in Caelid, you will receive a new concoction to mix into your flask of wondrous physics. I remember that fight clearly not just because it was a hard fought fight against rot, but because the prey description for the Opaline Hardtear boded damn well. “Temporarily increases all damage negations in Physick,” it read.
All Damage I thought? a no-Brainer, I equipped it. Then I went on for hours and felt extremely confused because I didn’t seem to be doing it Notice a difference in action after you pop the Physick. Eventually I just went back to what I had previously equipped.
Players who tested the item found that the rift was only negated for whatever reason elementary Damage for a short time, which while useful is also cumbersome and a huge step backwards for what seemed like a general purpose use case. While some took advantage of its misreported strengths, just as many dismissed the opalines as useless.
But with patch 1.06, the balance has been restored. “Fixed a bug that caused the Opaline Hardtear not to boost physical damage negation,” the patch notes read. Specifically, Opaline provides 10% damage negation along with elemental negation after testing. The opportunities here are pretty damn good if you’re smart.
Notice to PVP players, for example that you could combine the Hardtear with the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, which reduces physical damage by 20%, and Radiant Baldachin’s Blessing, something that grants 35% damage negation, combined with Bull Goat armor for a reported total resistance of 72 ,8th%. Why stop there? You could probably pop some cooked crab for that sweet 20% physical resistance. The world is your oyster, my brothers in grace.
