late llast month the developers of the venerable MMO Everquest II introduced a new type of loot box for the game that was basically a pay-to-win situation. This did not go down well with the cross-country skiers community!

As MMO bomb explainthe loot boxes, called Libant Evernight Heritage Crates, “Bypassed bans and allowed more opportunities to purchase raid gear through the cash shop.” Fans were quick to dub them “pay-to-raid” items and complained on the game’s forums – which look as old as the game itself.

Their requests were loud and numerous enough for the Daybreak developers to reverse the decision almost immediately, Posted late last week:

After listening to your feedback and having many discussions, we have decided to remove the Libant Evernight Heritage Crate from the in-game marketplace store. The crate and most of its current contents will no longer be available for sale.

We heard you and understand that certain elements of the Libant Heritage Crate run counter to our shared values. We will no longer provide these types of items.

Due to the uproar, Daybreak have decided that “in the spirit of community feedback” they will now open a special forum for players to consider things like balance changes Before they go live, not after:

I would also like to announce that in the spirit of community feedback we will be opening new class balance forums for Everquest 2, wait for them to arrive in the near future. We want you, the community, the people playing these classes, to help us decide which balancing changes and bug fixes to prioritize in major updates. These forums improve our communication with you and allow you to help us assess the changes. These forums have a section for each class, and you can suggest changes, communicate with us, and vote on the fixes and balance changes you think your class needs. The goal here is to share with you the amount of time and effort these proposed changes will require and to openly discuss feasibility. We will discuss changes as long as they are within reason.

It sucks to post about this under the circumstances, but man, a EverQuest II Story! 2023!
