That Game Awards took place yesterday but we’re not here to talk about it. What we’re trying to discuss here, true believers, is that Supergiant Games surprises everyone by breaking with its no-sequel tradition to announce Hades II and quickly stepping back onto the collective necks of the gaming world with the appeal of their characters. And not only are they hot, they have some interesting historical lore behind them.
Throughout the 2020 action roguelike Hades seen Zagreus fights his way up from Hades (the place) to meet his estranged bio-mother Persephone, Hades II sees Zag’s sister Melionë descending into the underworld to beat up her dear old grandpa Chronos, the titan of time. Somewhere along the way, she’ll likely be tasked with rescuing Hades (the guy) from bondage.
“Like her brother Zagreus from the original game, Melinoë is not a character of our own invention but is based on an ancient deity of the underworld believed to be related to Hades,” Supergiant Games continued Hades IIFAQ page from. “The little ancient mythology that exists about her was more than enough to compel us to explore her story and her connection to her family, thereby expanding our vision of the underworld.”

As you would expect from Supergiant Games, the character designs for the Hades II The cast is all 11s in terms of how darn good they all look (and sound). But before we start pining apologetically for Melinoë, the princess of the underworld, praise be to her, and what can be thought of as her love interests, Nemesis and Moros, let’s open our textbooks of Greek mythology and read them to it to do better educate ourselves.

As Supergiant Games mentions in their FAQ, not much has been written about Melinoë in Greek mythology. However, what is written about her birth probably wouldn’t surprise you if you only have cursory knowledge of Zeus and his sexcapades in the Dumpster. Similar to Zagreus in Greek mythology, Melinoë’s mother is Persephone, the goddess of fertility and spring. However, her father is not Hades, but Zeus (who happens to be the true father of Zagreus in ancient lore). After assuming his brother’s form, Zeus bedded Persephone and now we have Melinoë. Why she is known as the bringer of nightmares and madness is unclear. Excuse me while I cough hard into the sky.
A woman’s mountain, known as Nemesis, as one might infer from her name, is the Greek goddess of vengeance. The descent from Nemesis is not a settled thing in Greek mythology. According to that The Latin author Gaius Julius HyginusNemesis is the daughter of the gothic goddess of the night, nyx. Alternative literature says she is another daughter of Zeus. PS: Don’t look up Helen of Troy’s lineage if you don’t want to have a Zeus-related headache. Similar to Hades’ domineering Megaera, Nemesis crafts a whip and a sword in battle.
Moros, brother of Thanatos, is the Greek god of fate. Emerging from the trailer, Moros could also play a similar narrative role to Thanatos: one of the guys Melinoë encounters when you meet your untimely death. If Supergiant Games is feeling particularly ambitious in its game design, Moros might also give you a glimpse of what’s to come in future stages once it’s historical has the power to show people a preview of their death. How considerate.

As we wrote in our previous feature, we explain everyone’s horniness Hadeswe have the art director of supergiant games, JenZee, to thank how godlessly attractive his new characters are. The other reason you might experience physical reactions to it Hades II Trailer is the outstanding vocal performance of his speaker. Just like the original Hadesthe occupation Hades II adds a raspy chant to their voices to complement the spice of Zee’s character portraits. For science, here’s a video of Megaera’s voice actor Avalon Penrose. explains how she comes into character. Wonderful.
Hades II doesn’t have a release date, but Supergiant Games expects it to appear on PC and consoles whenever it does. For now, we can all make some sweaty fan art out of the trailer to keep us busy.
