Critical Role has announced Vox Machina: Untold Storiesa forthcoming anthology of short stories narrated by characters from the first flagship campaign of the play proper. Over the last decade, the Dungeons & Dragons livestream has grown from a single weekly game into a media empire that includes a proprietary streaming service, animated television shows on Amazon Prime, a series of novels and comics, and a tabletop game publisher.
While the main campaign – along with the subsequent animated series and prequel comics – focused on the core cast of Vox Machina, the anthology will look at the land of Exandria from the perspective of the story's supporting characters, whose lives have intersected with the band of adventurers. But beware, there are spoilers for those who haven't seen the campaign in full.
One of the stories in the anthology, written by Critical role Guest star and real drama talent Aabria Iyengar centers on Shaun Gilmore, the magical dealer and flirtatious friend of the party, as he reflects on the life he has chosen. Another film from NYT bestselling author Rory Power follows the green dragon Raishan, who descends into madness while plotting the release of Thordak, the Ash King. Also included in the collection is a story by young adult author Sarah Glen Marsh that follows Vox Machina's unofficial mascot, Trinket the Wonder Bear, as he accompanies Vox Machina's descendants on their first adventure.
Vox Machina: Untold Stories will also feature seven additional short stories about characters such as Scanlan Shorthalt's daughter Kaylie, Taryon Darrington's automaton Doty, and Grog's antagonistic Goliath uncle Kevdak. With a forward by Critical role Actor Liam O'Brien, other contributors to the anthology include Jess Barber, Martin Cahill, Rebecca Coffindaffer, Sam Maggs, Nibedita Sen, Izzy Wasserstein and Kendra Wells.
The anthology will be released to the public on March 4th to mark the franchise's 10th anniversary. Vox Machina: Untold Stories Is currently available for pre-sale for $30 via Penguin Random House.
