If you want to go back to a previous chapter of the game and are unsure about the different options for resetting side quests, this guide is for you. Even if you are confused by another menu option viz the “Repeat” combat optionswe also break this down into easy-to-understand language.
RebirthThe options for resetting the side quests in plain text
If you wrap Rebirthis the main storyyou can jump to any chapter of the story using the “Chapter Select” in the game’s “System” options. Here you have three options. However, they make the most sense if we look at the options in the reverse order in which they were listed. So from bottom to top:
Reset all quest data
The most self-explanatory of the three options. As it says on the tin, if you choose a previous chapter to skip to, selecting that option will reset all your progress in each side quest.
Restore previously completed quest data
Let’s say you completed 24 out of 36 side quests and then completed the main story. If you select this option when moving to a previous chapter, you will retain that number – or however many side quests you have completed. If you have completed all 36 chapters, this option will maintain the completed status of all of these quests. In general, choose this option if you want to return to your most complete state.
Keep current quest completion dates
With this option, all completed and uncompleted side quests will remain where they are while you jump through the chapters. So let’s say you choose “Reset All Quest Data” and then complete five side quests before jumping to another chapter. If you want to keep these five in completed status and leave the rest unfinished, select “Keep…”.
Which option is best for cleaning up leftover quests?
So when you first reach the end credits and are ready to jump back in and complete any additional activities, you can simply select “Keep current quest completion dates.” As the name suggests, this “keeps” your current progress.

Why should you reset quest data?
Hey, maybe you really want some chickens to follow you home again? But seriously, some side quests have slightly different results. For example, to get the best ending for Dreaming of Blue Skies in Junon, you need to choose the beef meat over the other options at the end of the quest.

Also, when you’re done with the main story, you’ll know that a certain good boy in the group changes his voice a bit. Many of the side quests reflect this change. So when you play Of Robed Men and Ransoms, you hear the first voice of that particular character. But if you leave the Cosmo Canyon chapter of the game behind and return to this quest, this character will have a different voice. I replayed some of these quests on each side of the voice switch and noticed that the lines of dialogue end slightly differently in both directions. It’s a nice observation if you’re obsessed with it Rebirth as much as me.
