Square Enix visited the game’s official website to break the news. in the the blog post, the company said that this third party “uses a combination of email addresses and passwords that appear to have been obtained from other online services owned by other companies” to meddle with Square Enix’s account management system. It doesn’t seem like any information has been leaked yet. However, Square Enix said that in addition to investigating the impact of the attack by “restricting access to accounts that we believe may have been compromised by unauthorized users,” you should really consider changing your account password. In fact, the company is so adamant about sending out emails to potentially vulnerable users, so you might want to check your inbox.
“Using the same email address and password combination for your Square Enix account as you use for other online services increases the possibility that a third party could gain unauthorized access to your Square Enix account,” the company said, encouraging players to change their passwords now . “In addition, even if your email address and password combination is not the same as those for other services, there is still a high risk of your account being compromised if your password contains easily recognizable patterns or strings of characters, such as your date of birth .”

With around 19 million active accounts and around 40 million subscribers registered in Final Fantasy XIV, there are many potential vulnerabilities for the company to worry about.
