Netflix first kill brings some much-needed variety to the paranormal romance genre that dominated YA’s shelves in the mid-2000s. However, in this version of the vampire-meets-human romance, one of the partners is a slayer. Also, they are both girls.
The lines of first kill come from two very different families, but both are preparing to make their first kill. Calliope (Imani Lewis) comes from a long line of monster slayers and must kill her first vampire to join them. Meanwhile, Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) comes from a long line of vampires (presumably the kind who are grown and mature rather than undead) and must make her first kill. They set their sights on each other…but sparks fly and they fall in love.
The intrigue! The forbidden romance! The blood!
first kill based on a short story by VE Schwab (of the Shades of Magic series). Schwab is serving as the show’s executive producer. first kill comes to Netflix on June 10th.
