Epic seems to have found the limit for cosmetic prices. The company announced today that it is reducing the price Fourteen days‘s recently added in-game cars for around $35 to around $23.
On December 8th Epic games and Rocket League Developer Psyonix released Rocket race– a new competitive racing experience – within the popular battle royale game, complete with custom quests and cosmetics. I enjoyed it Rocket race since it launched earlier this month. But when I wanted to buy a new in-game car, I was amazed at the high price of 4,000 V-Bucks. For comparison, purchasing 5,000 V-Bucks costs $37, the closest amount you can buy from Epic. So these cars practically cost $40 each! This upset many playersand Epic seems to have realized it can’t charge that much.
On December 14th Epic said it had “fine-tuned” pricing on its in-game cars, significantly reducing their cost.
Rare cars that used to cost 4,000 V-Bucks now cost 2,500. Meanwhile, unusual cars that used to cost 2,500 are now selling for 1,500. In my opinion, these prices are still too high. The cars come with additional in-game stickers and can be used in Rocket League, Rocket Racingand Battle Royale.
Epic also promised that players who purchased the cars before the price cut would receive a refund of the price difference within a week.
What makes it difficult to figure out how much this stuff costs is the way Epic (and all other publishers and companies) sell digital currency in specific amounts Designed to trick you into buying more than you need, but content is priced so you’ll never have enough left over for anything else. This leads to you buying more currency and the cycle continues.
Saying that these cars cost $40 isn’t accurate, but it’s close enough. And really, The fact that we are even in this price range is ridiculous. Luckily, while the prices are still too high for my blood, not enough people seem to have bought these expensive vehicles, forcing Epic to lower the prices.
