Frances Quinlan, Yes
(Saddle Creek, January 31)
When Frances Quinlan announced her solo album, Yes, it was a surprise that his biggest band, Hop Along, was launched as his only project. But to listen Yes, although it maintains its distinctive punctuation, it is largely a guitar-based basis for many of Quinlan's songs to be built on Hop Along. In turn, Yes he sees Quinlan creating songs around composers and drum machines, allowing his voice to fill the gaps they create and give it a more literary, intimate feel throughout. Norwegian political pop-rock quartet The text of Sl hast has we have evolved since Credit for 2017, Try not to give up. Follow up Sorry for Later Response it's dark – there are only a few barn-burners here, a change of pace – but the rock band's firing in mid-tempo rock pays dividends. Of course, the chunk of the "Telepathetic" or "Passport" chunks make a full-blown sugar rush with repeated listening, but tracks like "Static," with the rotten grandmother of the band, or the ballad "New Year, New Me," sadly, it's a welcome addition to a different group sound. Singer songs Haley Shea are always a mix of activist anger and subtle confession, and without the corruption of the lead track "TURNED" (donning a song of his praise song), the record is a powerful coming-of-age documentary: living in a time of global crisis while facing the same bulshit adolescence. Mixing the kind of pun-punk into Sløtface & # 39; s frenetic pop stew turns into a winning recipe. (Alex McLevy)
