If you have never seen the episode of Bluish, Now’s your chance to see the popular Australian children’s cartoon that Disney refuses to show to American audiences. “Dad Baby” was fully uploaded to the official Bluish Youtube channel.
In the episode, Bluey and Bingo, the irrepressible Blue Heeler puppies, play a game with their father, Bandit, where he pretends to be pregnant with Bingo and gives birth to her in a pool in their backyard. Like all episodes of BluishIt’s very funny and lovingly tied to the realities of family life.
Although the episode was shown on television in Bluey’s native Australia, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, Disney – which owns the American TV rights – is on television and the worldwide streaming rights for the show – “Dad Baby” never aired or uploaded to the Disney Plus streaming service.
Disney has not commented on its decision to censor “Dad Baby.” That’s probably due to sensitivity to one of two things: a depiction of the realities of childbirth that in some conservative circles might be considered too honest for preschoolers – it’s not exactly graphic, but there’s no doubt about that is repressed – or the gendered representation of a man (well, a male dog) giving birth.
It seems BluishThe rights holders of , a small Australian animation company called Ludo Studio, got fed up with the episode being suppressed and decided to make it free to watch on YouTube. It is still not available on Disney Plus.
Bluish recently concluded its third season with the special episode “The Sign.” Although the creators have announced that Bluey and her family will be back, the future of the series remains uncertain as a fourth season is yet to be confirmed.
