Over the years, Gordon Ramsay has both beguiled and terrified audiences with his mixture of hot-headed temperament and direct attitude. The celebrity chef, perhaps best known for hosting shows like Hell kitchen and Master chefHe was catapulted to fame. His most recent appearance in the spotlight is that he has enchanted everyone by not knowing what Twitch is – even though his shows are incredibly popular on the live stream platform.
It started with the start of Ramsay’s new show, Next level cookwhere he and other top chefs assemble other chefs’ teams. According to the show’s intro, this is Ramsay’s first new cooking contest show in 12 years (it debuted on Fox January 2).
The viral video, which has been widespread on Twitter, includes a clip from the first episode in which each chef “designs” their team for the larger competition. In it, a cook named Tricia Wang introduces herself after Ramsay has chosen her for his team. (The judging chefs conducted a blind taste test of the dishes prepared by those vying for spots on each cooking team.) In the clip, Ramsay Wang asked what she did for a living, and she said she did is streaming a cooking show on Twitch.
“What the hell is Twitch,” replied Ramsay with his typical propriety.
“In all honesty, I was still overwhelmed by Chef Ramsay’s pick and was so busy crying that I couldn’t process what he said or I would probably have laughed at myself,” Wang Polygon said via email. (She cooked scallops in case you’re wondering what hit Ramsay’s palate.) Wang posted the clip
Ramsay leaned into the fool. He sent a tweet confirming the clip and asked the official Twitch account if he could get a lesson on the platform. At the time of publication, Ramsay’s Twitter bio its official page says, “Always around food … don’t know what Twitch is.” The cook also replied to the popular streamer, Félix “xQc” Polish, with a Jokes about being the “next level streamer”.
Ramsay and his shows are incredibly popular on Twitch. In December, popular variety show streamer like polish and Hasan “HasanAbi” picker streamed myself Observe and respond to Ramsay Master chef. Ramsay’s bombastic attitude and penetrating one-liners go perfectly with Twitch clips. At some point the trend was even noticed Season 3 winner Christine Hà.
Ramsay, 55, has been a television personality since making his documentary debut in 1999 Hell kitchen (2004) made him a mainstream star. Thanks to some keen instincts and an even sharper tongue, he’s stayed relevant over the past two decades, becoming an early adopter of other social media platforms – which makes it especially funny that he had no idea what Twitch was.
Ramsay may be new to Twitch, but he’s regularly popular on TikTok where he makes charming Videos with his daughter, Mathilde. Now all we have to do is stream it live.
