Gotham Knights received its first significant post-launch patch on PC yesterday. The update aimed to fix online multiplayer bugs and eliminate some bugs. Unfortunately, it also temporarily crushed those Batman the game’s Denuvo DRM protection, making it seemingly vulnerable to pirates. This is one way to surprise her.
The PC patch for the fighting co-op adventure was kicked out last night, and it didn’t take long for game crackers to realize that the new build released on Steam was missing Denuvo. The news spread to sites like the CrackWatch subreddit, and even led some to believe that Warner Bros. removed the DRM on purpose. It hadn’t.
SteamDB entries are displayed that a new build with Denuvo anti-tamper protection in place was released about 14 hours later, but apparently the damage had been done. People are unlikely to play the newly pirated version of Gotham Knights can participate in the game’s multiplayer, a focus of the loot-based brawler, and pirates cannot enjoy future patch fixes or content updates. They probably have free rein for the single player campaign now though.
my box has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment.

Denuvo Protection is controversial among some PC users in part because it restricts how they can save and play a game. It is also widely believed to negatively affect the performance of PC games that use it. Often this is DRM removed by game publishers for weeks or months after launch, especially when it is eventually “cracked” by hackers. Rarely is it accidentally dropped and then recovered.
Of course, the bigger problem for Gotham Knights is this it’s just not that goodparticularly for a game that has been in development for many years, it’s one of the first new-gen $70 exclusives and is clearly inspired by the much better Arkham Trilogy of Batman games. While it’s not clear what new content Warner Bros. Montréal might have in store later, it promises a much bigger performance update in the near future.
This patch is also aimed at consoles and fixes some of the framerate drops seen on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While Gotham Knights is controversial locked at 30 fps On consoles, it often dips below in certain scenes and when patrolling Gotham while large mobs of enemies are present. As Digital Foundry has called, but there are many performance issues on PC as well. Hopefully they will be addressed as well.
