There’s a video game coming out called Gotham Knights. It’s about some kids from the Batman Universe coming together after Batman is killed. There’s also a TV show coming out called Gotham Knights. It’s about some kids from the Batman Universe coming together after Batman is killed.

The game is scheduled for release towards the end of 2022. The TV show will air in 2023. While it sounds like they are both very related, no, the developers of the video game want everyone to know that’s absolutely not the case:

I can understand the legal reasons for this tweet. Despite the numerous superficial similarities, there are differences between the two projects. For starters, the game is based on that Batman: Gotham Knights Comics and follows roughly the same storyline as the kids who team up are all former protégés of Batman, like Nightwing and Batgirl.

The show is now Not Based on the comics, Batman’s adopted son joins forces with… the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for a murder they didn’t commit. Having two projects with the same name but different storylines sure seems like a licensing/marketing blunder somewhere at DC because despite tweets like this there will always be people out there who either confuse the two or think that one is the other on which other is based.

But I can also understand the emotional reasons for this tweet, because the Gotham Knights The TV series released its first trailer last week. and it looks like complete dog shit! It would be one thing if your game were principally confusingly associated with a TV show, but if it shared oxygen with a Disney comic book version progeny must be incredibly frustrating:

Hopefully the fact that the game is coming out in October 2022 (on PS5, Xbox X\S and PC) while the show isn’t scheduled to air until 2023 will give some breathing room.
