Most games are not even updated for a new generation of consoles, let alone twice. After first appearing on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V will finally get an “extended and enhanced” version for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S later this month, but with an expensive crease: GTA V will be $20 cheaper on Sony’s new generation console.
As first reported by VGC
This is getting confusing already, so let’s break it down a bit more:
- Standard price for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S: $40
- Xbox Series X/S discount price: $20
- Discount price on PS5: $10
- GTA Online Xbox Series X/S Discount Price: $10
- GTA Online discount price on PS5: Free
as VGC indicates that this price difference appears to be the result of an existing promotion GTA Online until June for free as part of PlayStation Plus. Since the New Gen version of GTA V Coming with both story and online modes, Xbox Series X/S owners don’t have the option of simply purchasing the single-player campaign for the same $10 as that on PS5. I was already expecting too much for a game that came out almost a decade ago.
The updated version of GTA V comes with three graphic modesfaster loading times and a set of improvements to things like vehicle variety, vegetation density, better lighting, and improved explosions. It will also support one-off story and online character migrations between the old and new gen versions of the game. In fact, players’ existing saves will be transferred, but only once. While this data can be moved between PS4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, any previously purchased GTA$ currency must remain in the console family in which it was originally purchased.
Originally announced by Rockstar Games GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S again in June 2020, three months into the global pandemic. Like almost everything else, it ended up being significantly delayed. However, the game continues to sell like gangbusters. Publisher Take-Two announced that it has been achieved over 155 million lifetime sales in the last year. Maybe that’s why the company was in no rush to publish GTA6 sometime soonespecially given the growing expectations that it will be one of the greatest games of all time GTA5s success.
