Destiny 2’s Guardian Games returns to the Tower for the third time on May 3rd. The competition to see which of the three Guardian classes is second and third best (it’s a closely guarded secret that Titans are obviously first) begins Tuesday and will run through the end of the season, May 24th.
As usual, players will take on small quests to earn medals and exchange them to increase their class’ standing in the ranks. But this year Bungie is bringing back an often-requested feature for the duration of the event: Strike Scoring.
Instead of rushing through the strikes, players are given special quests to inflict maximum damage and kill enemies in unique ways. This feature manifests itself in two different Strike playlists: Training and Competitive. The workout playlist is active Tuesday through Thursday each week. The rest of the week – Friday through Monday – players can jump into the Competitive Playlist to earn better rewards.
By getting high scores, players can unlock torches in the tower that grant their guardian a special glow on their right shoulder. Players can have their left shoulder glow by turning in medals to help their class win. For their efforts, players will receive the new The Title submachine gun, which comes equipped with a special Origin perk called Classy Contender (kills refund class ability energy).
Bungie is also making slight changes to how medal deposits are weighted for the event – due to the discrepancy in player population between classes. Classes that fall behind and finish second or third will receive proportional multipliers for the remainder of the event. This also takes data from last season into account, meaning Titans (who finished third last year despite winning in 2020) will get the biggest boost. Warlocks get a small boost for coming second, and Hunters get very little boost since they won 2021.
Finally, Bungie announced some exciting loot determination 2 on May 24th with the new season. The seasonal ritual weapon will be a machine gun called Chain of Command. Players can also earn Nightfalls’ Horror’s Least pulse rifle, as well as the popular DFA hand cannon. Trials of Osiris gains the Forgiveness sidearm and Burden of Guilt fusion rifle.
But before players can get their hands on these new weapons, they’ll have to throw down the gauntlet in the 2022 Guardian games. May the best class win.
