Hades 2 Steam Deck Settings

Hades 2 arrived via Early Access It will be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 6th and is already causing a lot of excitement. If you want to enjoy Greek mythology-inspired roguelike action RPG gameplay on the go with the Steam Deck, there are a few settings you may want to adjust.

Activate the rear access buttons

The Steam Deck has four convenient buttons on the back, although not all games have them enabled by default. While playing Hades 2press the Steam button and go to Hades II > Controller Settings > Controller Settings. This will take you to a new menu where you’ll see “Quick Settings” and a slider for “Enable recourse buttons.”

After power on, the rear grip buttons default to the four face buttons: L4: Y button, L5: X button, R4: B button, R5: A button. This arrangement should work well for most players, but you may want to customize it further (you can change which buttons they are assigned to in the Quick Settings section).

The rear grip buttons are particularly useful for sprinting, as they allow you to zoom around the map while holding your thumb over the four face buttons.

Consider disabling the trackpads

The Steam Deck has two trackpads located directly below the analog sticks. These are very cool input devices that can be assigned various functions. But if you just want a simple, controller-like experience Hades 2 (or any other game), you may want to disable them as they are easy to accidentally touch with your palms when holding the Steam Deck, resulting in accidental key/button inputs.

To turn it off, click the Steam button and navigate to Hades 2 > Controller Settings > Controller Settings > Edit Layout > Trackpads and change “Trackpad Behavior” to “None” for both trackpads.

Also consider turning off screen shake

As I stated in my general Hades 2 Settings instructionsFor a less distracting experience, you can turn off screen shake. I find it more distracting on the smaller Steam Deck screen, especially when traveling.

To turn off screen shake, press the Pause button during playback and go to Options > Accessibility > Screen shake.

Missing: Scalability of text and HUD elements

You are unlikely to encounter performance issues while playing Hades 2 on Steam Deck. However, unfortunately there is no option to enlarge the on-screen text or various HUD elements.

As it stands, text and the like are mostly visible, but for a perfect Steam Deck experience, Hades 2 could provide more visual scalability features.
