A lot can happen in two months. You could spark a whirlwind romance with the love of your life. You could get a new job and move across the country. Or you could complete the 100 levels of a first-person shooter’s Battle Pass, designed to stretch three times as long.
Yes, it happened to me: I hit my max earlier this month Halo infinityBattle Pass from. So what now?
It’s strange to think of today, but when Halo infinity‘s multiplayer mode, which launched on Xbox and PC in November, players have branded its progression system. You don’t level up by playing well, but by earning XP from Daily and Weekly Challenges. Some of these tasks were a slog or only offered a few points, contributing to the widespread notion that progression through the Battle Pass was just too slow for the first season, which is scheduled to end in May 2022. Developer 343 branches Complaints processed quickly by lowering the difficulty of the weekly challenges and tweaking the daily challenges, giving you XP for every game, meaning you can at least level up by playing six games a day.
Back then I defended the system To write:
gloriole has never about this stuff. Since the days of Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001, gloriole It’s always been about the game itself – about winning matches just to win, about improving your kill-to-death ratio, fooling around and having fun with fun vehicles and weapons that you can’t find in any other game , and then combine them with ridiculous game parameters, all in an effort to combine creativity with competition.
I still stand by it –gloriole It’s all about having a good time – but in the last month or so I’ve noticed a sea change: Halo infinityThe challenges and Battle Pass of started dictating how I played. Instead of playing for kicks, I hopped into matches with the intention of improving my Battle Pass. In the 80’s I realized I was flying through so I slowed down. Dispense my own advice, I stopped using XP boosts. I stopped turning off weekly challenges if I didn’t care about that week’s reward. Some days I actually – and I know it may be hard to believe –played other games.
Still, I reached level 100. In three and a half months it is still.
Of course not everyone Halo infinity Player has reached the cap and the total number of those who have reached this is unknown. on Xbox, around six percent Earned the Battle Hardened achievement, awarded for completing a Battle Pass. On Steam it is much lower, only one percent. But these statistics are full. For one thing, it’s not entirely clear whether “Battle Hardened” unlocks when you complete the full season Battle Pass or any of them the time-limited event will pass, like the currently active “Cyber Showdown” one
But if these players are anything like me, they found themselves right in a frontier area that we’ll refer to as Battle Pass Limbo from now on.
I can’t say that the ending in that muddy in-between didn’t noticeably influence my approach Halo infinity. This week’s reward – a muted tangerine visor – is sick, so I play a ton and diligently turn down every challenge. Last week was cool too. Two weeks ago, however, the prize was a total disappointment, essentially a repeat of a previously available prize (a variation on the cheesy “sacrifice” emblem has appeared several times this season). If a friend wanted to celebrate and overcome their own challenges, I’m sure, yes, I’d jump up. But I didn’t find myself playing much just for fun.
Don’t get me wrong: I still play an absurd amount Halo infinity. But for the past few weeks I’ve been wondering what you do when you hit a progression wall. How to fill the gap between the Battle Passes? Halo infinity still smells of excitement with new games (my third favorite perfume), but will that be able to continue in future seasons? Less than 343 Industries proactively adding extra levels before the season ends – like some not exactly credible rumors hinted at – I can’t think of anything right away can to have something…
Okay, so after you hit level 100 Halo infinity‘s Battle Pass does not fill the XP bar. That said, after a handful of matches, I still got the level up notification, with the splashy diamond showing I’ve hit level 100, suggesting that Halo infinity continues to track earned XP, even if it doesn’t really matter anymore. There’s the smallest part of me that totally believes that 343 Industries should continue to show that XP bar filling for maxed out players. At least you would feel like you’re getting a small prize, a small pat on the head, despite the fact that you really are walking away with nothing.
or Halo infinity could stay as it is, and those of us doomed to fight in Limbo could find the strength to settle, you know, play the game. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about, isn’t it?
