Arrowhead, the developers behind the successful co-op shooter Helldivers 2, have been struggling to provide their community with some weapons lately. Helldivers 2 For months, players have been unable to unlock a new strategy – deployable weapons and tools that can be used mid-game. Things have gotten so bad for these poor things that the community now suspects they were tricked into unlocking them by Arrowhead through its latest and most obscure major contract.
First teased as unlockable stratagem in Aprilthe anti-tank mine strategy has suffered a particularly cruel fate in Helldivers 2s five-month lifespan. When they were first offered, there was a choice between two strategies: either the mines or a rocket launcher. Players had to choose between liberating two planets that matched either strategy, and the one liberated first would receive their weapons. The rocket launcher won, and the mines were put on hold until the next big job.
A little later, the community received the even bigger task of killing two billion automatons – one of Helldivers 2The warring factions and a to fight particularly brutallyAs a reward for completing the major mission, players were given a second chance at the anti-tank mines. This time Helldivers 2 Player base missed the target, although it is unclear whether this was due to dwindling numberslack of interest in the reward, sheer failure to accomplish such a large task, or a mixture of all of these factors.
Last month, Arrowhead again offered the mines as a choice between two options: Helldivers 2 Players were faced with their own personal trolley problem and had to decide whether to save the children of Super Earth or a factory that would produce the mines. The community chose the children.
This brings us to the major mission at hand and its fairly simple goal: the liberation and defense of planet X-45. It is so simple that the major mission was completed in just a few days. Helldivers 2 However, players fear that there is an ulterior motive behind the defense of X-45. Most major contracts clearly state what rewards will be paid upon completion, but the current contract largely obscures this fact.
Instead, the reward for this major contract was most often referred to as a “Weapon from the First Galactic War.” At first, players suspected that this might be the return of a weapon from the original. Hell Diverwhich could still be the case. This idea has not entirely convinced conspiracy theorists, who are now fully convinced that this is Arrowhead’s (and especially Joel’s) Possibility to trick players, Finally open the mines.
People in the Helldivers 2 subreddit, have with Posts that make jokes about the conspiracy. A contribution is titled in capital letters with “IT’S A TRAP. RETREAT. RETREAT. THEY WANT TO GIVE US THE MINES.” The trap language has been transferred to other postsand one of my favorites even uses a trusted war of stars memes Template with great impact. A player seriously asked if the language of the main mission suggested that they would unlock an older one Hell Diver weapon, and the responses are full of people talking loudly about the great mining conspiracy of 2024. I’m kind of inclined to believe them, and here’s why.
Mines are not as sexy as a new weapon, which explains why players are not so keen on getting them. The order to kill two billion automatons came at the wrong time, as the game was still moving away from the PSN vortex that almost Cost it and Arrowhead their respective good reputationsand suffered from lower than usual play numbers. The trolley problem seemed to poke fun at the unique situation of the mines, but also seemed to be a tacit admission by the developers that it was an unpopular choice. As different Could the developers get these tools into our hands outside of the city? to outright trick us into earning it? That’s like hiding a dog’s medication in his food.
X-45 has become a popular planet since Arrowhead discovered the new jungle biome. Players are already flocking to every planet that has the new look, so why not place a Grand Order there to ensure that the majority of the active player base supports the Grand Order’s completion? That being said, most Grand Orders have been more drawn-out affairs spread across the defense or liberation of multiple planets. In this case, however, we literally only need to hold one planet, and everyone is already there. It’s no wonder that with 3 days left to complete the objective, it’s already done.
I don’t know what to believe at this point, but I do know that it would be damn funny if Arrowhead got their community to support this effort just to get the mines. I’m on my knees literally praying that we have them all unlocked next week. That would be my whole life.
