Ahead of the third season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation The Witcher comes Confirmation of a fourth season
On their respective Instagram profiles Cavill and hemsworth discussed the recast of the series’ lead Witcher.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventure, and sadly I will be laying down my medallion and swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement. “In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest characters in literature, I pass the torch with awe at the time I’ve spent impersonating Geralt and with enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most intriguing and nuanced man. Liam good sir there is such wonderful depth to this character, have fun diving in and see what you can find.”
“As a Witcher fan, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” said Hemsworth. “Henry Cavill was an incredible Geralt and I am honored that he is handing me the reins and allowing me to pick up the Blades of the White Wolf for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m really excited to step into the world of The Witcher.”
Cavill made the announcement earlier this week, which was all but confirmed by his cameo appearance Black Adam
“I wanted to wait until the weekend is over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam‘ Cavill said on Instagram. “Now that many of you have, I wanted to make it official: I’m back as Superman. What you see in this picture and in Black Adam is just a very small taste of things to come. There are many things to be grateful for and I’ll get to that, but most of all I wanted to thank you. Thank you for your support and for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”
Cavill was cast as Geralt the White Wolf in 2018. He brought real nerd credibility with him – as an unabashed fan of The Witcher games and books, as well as a believer World of Warcraft and Warhammer Geek – for the role. “I really feel a connection to Geralt and who he is and his nature, especially from the books,” Cavill said in a 2019 interview with Polygon. “And after playing the game for many, many, many hours, it was something that I had a connection with. And so it was just about putting a version of me that is a version of Geralt on Lauren’s show.”
The Witcher Season 3 began filming earlier this year and is scheduled to stream on Netflix in summer 2023. A limited edition prequel spinoff, The Witcher: Origin of the Bloodstarring the incomparable Michelle Yeoh, arrives on Netflix on Christmas Day.
