For the second time in two years things are in the battlefield The community – or at least the worst elements of it – has become so toxic that it has led to some pretty harsh demands for people to get a handle on it and stop.
The Week in Games: Return to Hyrule
May 8, 2023
early 2022, not long after Battlefield 2042 disastrous startThe The game’s official subreddit was neatly shut down as the mods wrote:
It’s an understatement to say that this subreddit has become incredibly toxic. It’s almost impossible to have a simple discussion without insulting one another — and it’s really starting to hurt the whole battlefield
community and each of us who is part of it. […] Mods are required to follow the rules set out by Reddit, and if we are found to be violating them by not enforcing them, or if we do a poor job of enforcing them, we risk the community being banned outright.
Now, a year later, the developers of the games themselves have released a statement on social media – co-signed by all four battlefield Studios – saying “We have observed an increase in harassment from members of our development team” and that “we will take appropriate action” against players found not to be following the series’ Community Guidelines:
Recently, we have observed an increase in harassment from members of our development team.
At all of our Battlefield Studios, we’re open to constructive feedback and criticism about our games.
However, to maintain a healthy and open dialogue with our community, we will protect our teams and employees from toxicity and harassment. We believe this has no place in our game or within the Battlefield community.
We want to remind our players that we will take appropriate steps to uphold these values through our EA User Agreement and Battlefield Community Guidelines.
As a community, we reach the goal together.
I get it, battlefield Fans have been through a lot in the past few years! Every time the series changes direction, sections of the fanbase get upset, and I don’t think anyone would say that Battlefield 2042 started in perfect condition.
But it launched in the middle of a global pandemic, which I don’t think nearly enough fans realize, and it does has done a fairly new job of turning into some sort of reality over the past few months and years battlefield
That should be a good thing! But no, this is the internet, and this is the video game corner of the internet, so of course there must be people who are angry all the time. And as always, they get mad at the wrong people. Battlefield 2042 was rushed out the door in the midst of a pandemic by the folks running EA to meet a financial goal, rather than the level designers, artists, and community managers who work at DICE.
I am glad that such supportive (their teams) and emphatic language is used in this statement. when someone is stupid And If someone is hateful enough to harass the developers of a video game, for whatever reason, then playing multiplayer video games with or against them is not going to be fun with that person.
