House of the DragonSeason two ended with the chessboard being filled with pieces and each one carefully placed into position. While it wasn’t the most explosive season finale in Game of Thrones history, it was shaping up to be a fantastic third season.
To give you a preview of what’s to come, here’s everything we know about House of the Dragon Season 3, which HBO has already given the green light for.
Will there be a third season of House of the Dragon?
It is definitely happening, and the The announcement was made before the premiere of season 2. Additionally, creators Ryan Condal and George RR Martin have talked about keeping the series to just under four (approximately) seasons, and since the series remains one of HBO’s most popular shows, you can probably expect at least one more after Season 3, too.
When will season 3 of House of the Dragon be released?
Although we know nothing official, it is reasonable to assume House of the Dragon Season 3 will be released sometime in 2026. The gap between season 1 and season 2 was about two years, which would certainly suggest that we could see a similar gap between seasons 2 and 3. In addition, HBO is said to be releasing the new game of Thrones spin off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms The end of 2025, which should fill the Westeros content supply planned for this year.
What is House of the Dragon season 3 about?
Without going into the book spoilers, House of DragoThe montage that ended Season 2 certainly gave us some major clues about the future of the series. For example, we know that Daemon is now truly back on Team Rhaenyra, and we know that the two of them – along with their newly anointed dragon riders – are heading to King’s Landing in the hopes of quickly taking it with overwhelming force. Meanwhile, Team Green is all over the map. Alicent is committing treason, Aegon is hiding out with Larys, and Aemond is setting fire to everything in sight. All while every non-Targaryen house in Westeros is preparing for all-out war.
In other words, we have all the prerequisites for a very exciting third season.
In the meantime, should I read the book that House of the Dragon is based on?
Sure, why not! On the one hand, if you read the chapters of Dance of Dragons in Fire & Blood will help you understand the basics that House of the Dragon will be pretty well received. On the other hand, it won’t contain too many spoilers either, as the series adds an incredible amount of detail to events that are only briefly outlined in the book. In other words, the book is basically like an extended trailer for the rest of the series, which – depending on your preferences – can be a great way to kill time between seasons.
Will “Winds of Winter” come out before season 3 of “House of the Dragon”?
Almost certainly not. And even if I believed it might be so, I would never curse it by saying it out loud. For now, I will continue to assume that The Winds of Winter probably won’t come out until hell freezes over or the New York Jets (or, much less likely, the Giants) win the Super Bowl, and so should you.
