Donnnnnng. The classic chime Mac is a glorious way to let your Mac come back to a close or restart. But if I'm right, this friendly sound needed new Macs years. (I only have a MacBook Pro, and I can confirm that holding my MacBook is boring and quiet for as long as I can remember.)
If you miss the classic boot sound – ah, nostalgia – you can bring it back in less time than you take on your Mac to boot, period. I haven't tested this trick on any other Mac, and I believe it only works if your Mac has one T1
To get started, draw your own Airport. When that downloads, enter the following:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
Hit Enter, type your Mac password, unmute or raise your Mac volume to the correct level, and restart your laptop or desktop. Now you should feel old donnnnng
In case you get sick of startup sounds, you can simply go away reset your PRAM to disable it either go back to the terminal and enter the following:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%01
