Helldivers 2is new Update “Escalation of Freedom” was released on August 6th and contains a lot Changes And Additionsincluding a number of new enemy types. On the Terminid front, we now have the Impalerthat return from the first game and will happily stab you with their incredibly long tentacles that they burrow into the ground. However, they aren’t even the most fearsome new insect enemies included in the update.
This honor goes to the new Spore Chargers. Although they are functionally similar to the existing Chargerswhich are already problematic enough, this new variant gives the whole thing a threatening twist. Not only do they have a lot of nasty growths on their shell, Sporeloaders also emit an acid-green mist that fills their immediate area and obscures their exact location..
The first time I came across one of these things, I didn’t even notice it. Thanks Helldivers 2When I saw the different weather effects, I thought I was simply caught in one of the planet’s acid storms, which I knew could before I threw myself into my mission. Before I knew it, I was running toward an objective and could barely see a few meters in either direction when a teammate called out that they had spotted a spore loader in the thick fog.
Reader, I screamed when the thing finally appeared out of nowhere. But thanks to that experience, I can now tell you the best way to proceed if you encounter a Spore Charger.
Where can I find a spur charger?
Similar to the new Impaler and most advanced variants of enemies, Spore Loaders are easier to spot on higher difficulties. I first spotted one on a level 7 mission, and they likely start appearing at level 6, which is referred to as “Extreme” in the game. This is about the time when the modifiers start suggesting both massive and heavily armored enemies, and I believe these bad boys fit the description.
As I mentioned before, they are pretty obvious in appearance, but the telltale sign that you are about to face a Spore Loader is the mist that will quickly swallow you up. The mist moves with the Charger so they’re always the center of attention, even though it’s hard to tell up from down in there. That’s why we need skills and weapons that have targeting and a lot of power to take them out easily.
How to kill a spore loader
Because these things are so heavily armored, you’ll want to pack something with explosive power. As for weapon strategies, bring an expendable anti-tank missile launcher, a commando, or a spear if you think you’re going to face a spore loader. Similar to a regular Charger, it should be quite easy to blast the protective cover off its front and then follow up with a second shot.
Personally, I’d prefer a Javelin because of the lock-on feature. Given the nature of the Spore Loader’s passive fog and the fact that it appears on difficulty levels where you’re often surrounded, having a weapon that can compensate for any human error is a good insurance policy. Just remember to give it some space, as the Javelin has to launch the missile into the air before locking on to it and coming back down on it.
If you don’t want to deal with a Spore Charger directly, there are actually a number of ways to get around this that will avoid some of the Helldivers 2‘s under-exploited strategies. Both the Orbital Railcannon Strike and the Eagle 110MM Rocket Pods will be key to taking out Spore Chargers from a relatively safe distance. This is because both strategies automatically lock on to the largest target in the area rather than simply hitting the area marked by your beacon.
These strategies have always been helpful against enemy units that are constantly on the move, such as Gallen Titans and standard Chargers, but thanks to the Spore Charger’s ability to obscure your vision, they’re now more useful than ever.
If you are particularly combative and do not want to use stratagems – or you simply run out of weapons because your mission is so grueling –Spore loaders actually have more gaps in their armor than most other loaders. Their sides are practically exposed thanks to the enormous acid growths, and the underside of their rear end has the same weak spot as any other loader. but this approach will consume both ammunition and time, which are a coveted commodity in Helldivers 2. Also, be careful not to kill them if you are too close, as they will explode and spread their acid everywhere. You’re much better off using one of the strategies above to quickly turn off a charger before it becomes a problem.
Now I believe you are ready to take over the insect front of the Second Galactic War, and thank goodness for that. We need well-informed soldiers on the ground to take on these nasty bastards and make a real difference.
