Palworldthe Pokémon-like survival crafting game, has one Multiplayer component, but it can be tricky. There is no PvP in the game, and while you can work together with your friends to build larger bases and defeat baddies, some of the progression remains alone.
Besides, playing with more people is more fun. Below we explain how the multiplayer and crossplay modes (or lack thereof) work Palworld.
How to play multiplayer in Palworld
You can either host or join your friends in a personal save file (up to four players) or join a dedicated server (up to 32 players). To join a personal save file, all you have to do is do this Enter the invitation codewhich the host player can find in his options.
If you don’t see the invite code, as the host you may need to toggle the multiplayer option in the world settings. Every time you start a new session, you need to send your friends the invitation code as a new code is generated.
To play on a dedicated server you can either join one of the Palworld public servers, Host your own, or pay for a hosting website. (I usually choose the latter as it’s the easiest way to deal with it.)
Dedicated servers are only available on Steam (at the moment). So if you don’t want to limit yourself to four-player sessions, you’ll have to play on Steam.
How does multiplayer work in Palworld?
Multiplayer mode is significantly different from regular game mode. Here are some of the notable differences:
- You can defeat tower bosses like Zoe and Grizzbolt together as a group.
- Guilds function like groups and only the members of your guild can work with you at your base. If your friends want to build unique bases, they will want to join their own guild.
- When you die, you drop all of your friends in addition to your equipment.
- Exploring the world is done alone. Players must reveal the map one at a time and unlock fast travel points.
- Loot is unique to the world, not the player. If you see a chest or a shiny Pal Orb on the floor and pick it up, your friends won’t be able to have it.
It’s also worth mentioning that we encountered some strange issues on our dedicated server that didn’t occur when we played alone. However, we are not sure if these are multiplayer or server issues. These include not being able to jump up cliffs without falling (so you have to climb slowly) and not counting items correctly when building. Palworld
Is there crossplay multiplayer in Palworld?
No. The Xbox version and the Steam version cannot cross-play with each other. Additionally, the version playable on PC via Xbox Game Pass is also not cross-play compatible with the Steam version of the game.
If you want to play with friends, you’ll need to buy it either all on Steam or all on Xbox.
Accordingly an FAQ posted by Pocketpairthey are “working to make this happen as quickly as possible!” So stay tuned.
Is Palworld coming to PS5?
According to the same FAQ mentioned above, developer Pocketpair has no plans to release the PlayStation 5, but will “consider it during development.”
