Activision has reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to the developers of H2M Mod. The highly anticipated fan mod for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered focused on recreating and redesigning the online multiplayer of Modern Warfare 2 for PC gamers.
CoD4: MW Remastered Launched in 2016 and included the original campaign as well as a remastered version of the game’s popular multiplayer mode. Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was released in 2020 and contained only the campaign and no online multiplayer. For many players, this was extremely disappointing, as MW2′s online multiplayer is considered by many as cod fans as the best in the history of the franchise. So some fan modders decided to MW2‘s online promotion and cards with CoD4: MW remastered. And this mod, H2M, was supposed to be released very soon. But then Activision apparently intervened and stopped it.
On August 15, the developers of H2M announced on Twitter that they had received a cease and desist letter from Activision and would discontinue the mod “immediately”.
“Today, our team members received a cease and desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing regarding the H2M Mod project,” the developers posted on Thursday. “We are complying with this order and are ceasing all activities immediately and permanently.”
My city has asked Activision for comment.
The H2M mod should contain over 50 maps, a complete MW2 Progression system, new attachments, weapon camouflages and original killstreaks from the classic FPS.
The players were not happy about this news, especially because last week MW Remastered was put up for sale on Steam, allowing countless players to buy the game at a discounted price while waiting for the mod to launch. So many people bought MW Remastered because of the mod that it jumped into the top 5 best-selling games on Steam. On social media, players are sharing messages about returning the game and giving it a negative review. At the moment, MW Remastered has a “mostly negative” rating status on Steam.
