It’s Karen Gillan against herself in the new trailer for dual, a sci-fi action film that puts a twist on Hunger Games cloning. Tuesday’s trailer showcases the film’s odd and charming mix of comedy and action. dual is scheduled to hit theaters on April 15.
dual is set in a near-future sci-fi world where people who are about to die can clone themselves, seemingly to take their place and be there for their loved ones. However, there is a catch to this process: if a person is cloned but does not die, they must fight their clone to the death to see who gets to live. And that’s exactly what happens to Sarah (Gillan).
To prepare for her life and death struggle, Sarah goes to see a strange self-defense instructor named Trent (breaking Badby Aaron Paul). Trent helps her train, but as the year progresses she has to prepare for battle and her life falls apart around her thanks to her more charming clone.
dual was written and directed by Riley Stearns, whose previous film was The art of self defense. The film also stars Theo James (different), Maija Paunio (border town) and Beulah Koale (The Last Saint).
