This past weekend, the latest episode of the long-running animated sitcom aired on Fox The simpsons aired, and it was all about a fake game called boblox, a not at all subtle reference to the true life Roblox. And it was one of the better episodes of the season so far.
Anytime you talk about it The simpsons Inevitably these days, one has to contend with the comments about the show’s declining quality. And yes, it’s true that modern episodes often don’t compare to past classics. But this season (34!) and the last have been pretty good, with some fantastic all-time episodes like “Pixilated and scared.
After opening with a quick Assassin’s Creed Parody, complete with hidden blades and dead historical figures, Bart is forced by Marge to play a nicer, less violent video game called Boblox. And in a nice touch, whenever the episode shows things happening in the game, it uses 3D CG animation that looks sharp and flat, just like Roblox. However, because his parents are poor and don’t have a new PC, his old computer glitches when he’s playing the game, causing the Simpsons to keep selling a mohawk hair item. This scam is quickly growing into a full-fledged operation using Springfield Elementary kids and the school’s similarly old, crappy PCs.
This is a fun setup and it’s clear that author Ryan Koh is familiar with it Roblox and also online video game culture. At one point we’ll see Two streamers summarize a running one Boblox
But what really elevates this episode is when Principal Skinner comes into the picture. Desperate for money and a desire to turn the school into a performing arts school (to avoid test scores and grades), typical good boy Skinner teams up with Bart. Together, the two expand the mesh. At one point, Skinner uses his power as principal to intimidate even Martin Prince into shutting up with the threat of an A on his next report card. I love it every time The simpsons Put Bart with Skinner, as you can see, Skinner hates Bart and has an odd respect for him, and this episode reveals that Bart feels the same way about Skinner too.

Oh, and I also know that this was apparently a parody of The cable, to. But I’ve never seen that show, so I can’t tell if the episode hit that part or not. I leave that to you Cable fans out there decide.
It is interesting to see another animated FOX show that deals with video games and is successful. Just last month Bob’s burger made a whole episode dedicated to virtual reality gaming, how crappy it can be, and all the trouble people go through to play such things beat saber. Now all I need is The Great North to do an episode about it mobile games or free-to-play looter shooter.
