Jackie Chan in Fists of Fire: Jackie Chan DensetsuReleased in 1995 by the now-defunct Japanese studio Kaneko, it has long enjoyed a small but passionate scene of competitive gamers, and the quirky fighting game grows wilder when it is taken apart by fans.
Case in point: Yeung. This fighter is based on a Chinese actor of the same name and is unique among them Fists of fire that any character in the game can capture them in a combo indefinitely. Infinite Combos, as the competitive community calls these limitless chains of attacks, are a common sight in fighting games, but it’s rare for a single character to stand out as much as Yeung Fists of fire.
It all comes down to weight. One mistake makes Yeung so easy that OTG attacks (that is, attacks that lift characters off the ground after being knocked to the ground) ricochet them high enough to let any character in Fists of fire to perform infinitely looped combos. And yes i mean everyone Character. Hyper Jackie, one of the three versions of the game by Jackie Chan, was only recently legalized in tournament play, and Fists of fire Scientist Spabobin wasted no time trying to find his Yeung infinite (as shown in the video above).
While Jackie Chan in fists of fire may seem strange and janky to non-fighting gamers, genre enthusiasts live for that kind of silliness. Sure you will never see it Fists of fire on the Evo main stage, but that doesn’t make it any less important than Street fighter or Mortal Kombat. And that’s just one of the reasons the fighting game community is so big: No matter how obscure your favorite game is, there is sure to be at least one other person who has invested in it.
