A new month and a new year are upon us, and that means updates to the PlayStation Plus catalog. January 2024 begins with three new games available to download for Premium, Extra and Essential members starting January 2nd, plus some extras if you’re a space ninja.
This month is especially great if you love third-person games. A plague story offers satisfyingly beautiful stealth action while Bad West is here for you to blow up some demonic villains. Also, don’t forget to secure the games in December (including Lego 2K drive, Powerwash simulatorAnd sable), before the new month begins.
PS5 and PS4: Bad West
In our review of Bad West, My cityZack Zwiezen praised the third-person shooter as “a simple, honest, linear and fun damn video game”:
There’s no way around it: Bad West is silly, but in a good way. Its narrative has a lot in common with the best B-movies and pulp stories of the past. Characters behave more like people pretending To be people, as real people. The dialogue is full of swear words and exposition. Everything is cheesy and silly in the perfect way. Combined with the steampunk gadgets, monsters and violence, it really feels like a grindhouse flick you might have seen on TNT at 2am in the 90s.

PS5: A Plague Story: Requiem
This rat-infested third-person sequel from 2019 A Plague Story: Innocence features some beautiful images and a beautiful score. It might be a bit buggy from time to time, but if you like sneaking around in the dark and avoiding rats, it’s worth a download. At A Plague Story: Requiem
The environment itself is a spectacle, a black-and-white cookie cutter, sometimes lit by the orange sun of the Mediterranean coast, sometimes covered in flies, as Amicia trudges through the game’s piles of corpses that are discarded, burned, and forgotten. requiem is also heavily reliant on vibrational feedback, and crouching through dense tufts of grass and the misdirected brightness of lavender always feels good and tense.
A Plague Story: Requiem features a 17-hour storywith almost 30 hours if you want to complete everything it has to offer.
