The school is supported by the esports outfit of telecommunications giant NTT. as well as the esports team from Tokyo Verdy, the Japanese professional soccer team.
Located in trendy Shibuya in Tokyo, the interior of the school is, as expected, eSports-chic.
This is sooooooooooooooooooooo different from normal high schools.
Esports High School is at 40. fitted Galleria XA7C-R37 gaming PCs with an Intel Core i7-11700, and equipped with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards. While the school’s website doesn’t exactly list what games students will be playing, the genres listed are what you’d expect: FPS, third-person shooters, RTS, and MOBA.
The teachers are eSports players and industry types who make their specialist knowledge available to high school students.
In addition to learning video games, students also study that Japanese high school standard curriculum. There is also an individual study program for those struggling with standard tuition – a thoroughly welcome option.
The high school website lists a number of careers for future graduates including VR creator, game author, 3DCG designer, game designer, special effects creator, and programmer. Some of these decisions may require further training at a technical college or university. Other career opportunities are streamer and esports professional.
In January, the school will host an open campus at its Shibuya location. No word yet on how it costs a lot for students to attend Esports High School.
