It's been a challenging year for many reasons here Kotaku—well, just exactly for one reasonAnd I don't know what the future will bring, but I do know that 2019 was a lot of fun video games. Let's talk about them, shall we?
From lightabers to logical puzzles, here are my top 10 games of the year, starting with three completely burned out games followed by seven of my favorite games.
Exotic wildlife
Includes a hopping time structure Majora's Mask for ambitious space Metroid, Exotic wildlife it is one of the best games I've ever played, time. It is a playful, decorative and rewarding adventure of history through the deep space and ancient civilization. Controls take some getting used to, but once you start getting the hang of it Exotic wildlifeThe murals, revealing its secrets are pure joy. And the music! Music! What a game, an accomplishment, a conclusion, what an experience. If you don't play in this, please do. (Played on: PC)
Disco Elysium
Take the old school isometric gameplay The planet: Torture, take out the fight, and the sequel is full of great creative stories Disco Elysium, a game about decay, communism, and choosing whether to stick your thumb in your poem or not. Although it is not a more visual novel than a role-playing game, Disco Elysium should appeal to anyone who loves storytelling, good writing, and games that make you stay true and consider the potential consequences of your decisions. You can also have a heart attack from hitting the mailbox hard. (Played on:
The Father Is You
One of the basic principles of game design is to take a concept, introduce it to the player as easy as possible, and find ways to make it more complicated or distorted throughout the game. The Father Is You perform this procedure on just about any game ever played. The concept is straightforward: every word is a thing or a situation, and every sentence is a rule. Leveling requires you to make contact between any “You” and anything “Win.” All you can do is to go in four directions and wrap the words and objects around you. The first few levels are straightforward. After that, things start to get complicated. Words get confusing, things get stuck in place, the levels start to convince you that you're the smart person to solve them. Soon enough, you'll feel like you've stepped up to your meme version of the shelf brain. (Played on: Switch)
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
This was the year I fell in love with From Software software-After the end of notifying them before – so it's not surprising that The cover he took me out, even though I stuck to that Genichiro battle (stupid lightning) and had to stop playing for a while. What I like most about this game is the verticality. Jumping around and filming with a hard-pressed phone is just as fun as it gets, even though you know that every time you die, one of your friends gets the disease. (Played on: PC)
Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order
While most of my favorite games of 2019 were brilliant and real, sometimes you should appreciate a good piece of comfort food. The Jedi Fallen Order it takes on the best parts of every AAA game out there – sword war The cover, an increase in the energy of Metroid, the cinema scale the god of war, the rides of Exclusions—and it puts them all in a nice, well-made package that doesn't feel overwhelming. And it has some great features star Wars
Control
I have an appreciation for video games that sound like novels, and Remedy & # 39; s Control is where the best, combining smooth and satisfying combat with a clear artistic vision. The finish is a little subtle, but exploring the Oldest House is really fun, and the art direction is something that can be seen. Also, you can fly. (Played on: PC)
Boat Hunters 2
Original Dragon Builders Quest was a wonderful surprise, a combination of Dragon Quest and Minecraft that enlightened them both. The second one improves on its predecessor in almost every way, accessing some of the features of the first game of cheating and replacing other good ones, Wild Breathing-style hang-glider that lets you climb the map. Probably my favorite part of the game is that you can go explore other people's creations. I would never have time anywhere to build a big, bustling city Boat Hunters 2, but I'm pretty sure some people did. (Played on: Switch)
Fire Cone: Three houses
There are about 20 photos on this Nintendo Switch page Fire Cone: Three houses, but not one contains the actual game. Everything is OK anime characters with different personalities. Really, is there any better way to put together this game? (Played on: Switch)
Shvel Knight: King of Cards
This year marked the end of Shovel Knight saga, which debuted with the humble Kickstarter in 2013 no somehow got into five games there
Cross Code
This is a bit of a cheat. Technically, Cross Code came out last year, but didn't get it until the end of December, and it became one of my go-to games for the rest of 2019. Cross Code a modern take on the Super Nintendo action-RPG (think: Terranigma et al) but add enough unique twists to make it feel special. It's a one-player game, but it's set mostly within a fictional MMORPG called CrossCode, which allows for a lot of fun storytelling and lots of good humor. (Some members of your team may drop out because they have to quit and do their homework.) The battle feels fun, the bosses are strong and satisfying, and the holes are full of highlights Zelda-style a puzzle. (The overworld is full of puzzles, too. If you like puzzles, this is your game.) This is one of those games that will probably get the attention of the tone next year when it comes to Switch, so if you play it now, you can precede the curve. (Played on: PC)
