This is now, by my count, the fourth time we’ve posted about a Dark Forces x Unreal Engine remake. However, it is the first time that I am able to post today, right now, about one that is downloadable and playable by you properly.

Previous attempts have been either graphical showcases or tech demos, but this latest attempt – from Ruppertle– is fully interactive and not only contains two storyline missions Dark Forces II: Jedi Knightbut also some sandbox and endless modes to enjoy.

“The goal was to recreate one of my favorite childhood games while retaining the basic look, feel and gameplay,” says Ruppertle. “After almost 3 years of development, the project has finally gotten to a point where I feel ready to share it with you.”

You can Download links to the project can be found in the description of this YouTube videowith the files containing “2 official levels from the original game, 4 survival levels, sandbox mode, 3D model viewer, bonus levels to test and some secrets…”

Here’s a trailer showing not only the graphical changes but also some gameplay:

I’m not 100% excited about some of the visual changes here; Some of the environments look a little to busy now when their former sparseness had a certain tinge StarWarsy charm for her. However, the characters and weapons also look great in the third person perspective.

If you want to check out some of the others Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Projects I’ve talked about, they’re all worth checking out because they’re all trying something different. For example, he imagined the original game with a modern interfacewhile This one went into town to rebuild the first level of the original Dark Forces with some very fancy visuals.
