What a week. It was only Tuesday we wrote about Rumbleversea battle royale game that was discontinued less than six months after launch. Now on Thursday we have another one just this time Knockout City.
Game Master Jeremy Russo shared the news in a blog post published earlier todaystating that the game’s servers will be shut down on June 6th and thereafter Knockout City “will no longer be playable”. Or at least not in its current form (emphas is mine).
Today we are announcing that Season 9 will be the final season of Knockout City. Then, on the morning of June 6th, 2023, over two years after our initial launch, all servers around the world will be shut down and the game will become unplayable
. It was an extremely difficult decision for us, but a necessary and important one for our studio. Before that happens, there are a ton of new updates in store. We’ve got a packed Season 9 full of fantastic new content awaiting you, an epic send-off both in and out of the game. and even a private server version on PC so Knockout City can live on forever.
While the shutdown of an online game is always a disgrace to the community that is still playing it at the time, it is also a reality of this business, even for a game that started with five million players. When that time inevitably comes, it’s a cruel and d isappointing twist that the game usually disappears forever, leaving behind nothing but screenshots and memories, and no way for future generations to see what it’s all about.
So the news that Knockout City Getting a “private server” version on PC is great for both fans of the game and anyone interested in game keeping (which you all should be). Russo says it will be “a standalone, player-hosted version of the game” to be released shortly after the existing version shut down in June.
