It’s time for the Tokyo Game Show, but if like me you can’t travel to Japan, many of the major game publishers there are offering their catalogs for sale to celebrate. Konami is one of these publishers that is currently running a Steam saleand a look at the library of discounted games has shown what a strange publisher it has always been. Sure, Konami has Metal Gear Solidbut it’s got a lot of other stuff going on too, most of it weird and off-kilter or totally retro, and it’s kind of awesome.
Let’s start with the big articles: a series of Metal Gear Solid Games are on offer. For example, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol is currently available for $48 on Steam and Xbox, and will be even cheaper on PlayStation for $42 in the next few days.
If you decide to continue, some of the later installments in the series, especially some spin-offs, are also on offer. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Ultimate Experiencewhich contains both the prologue and Ground Zeroes And Phantom paincosts $18 on Steam and Xbox. I have mixed opinions about them, but most people consider them to be flagship open world stealth games. The increasingly popular Cult classic Metal Gear Rising: Vengeance is a completely different game where you accompany the cyborg ninja Raiden as he hacks his enemies to pieces in exceptionally bloody ways. You can also get it for $18 on Steam or for $12 on Xbox via backwards compatibility.
Outside the Metal gear Games, Konami’s catalog is a little mixed up, but that’s kind of great – it means the publisher has something for everyone. For example, Silent Hill: Homecoming—nobody’s favorite silent Hill Game – is on sale on Steam for $8 if you’re looking for a horror game to pick up before the spooky seasonA couple Yu-Gi-Oh Games—Legacy of the Duelist and its updated version Link development– are on sale for $5 and $10 respectively, and I’ve heard that the video games in this series have been fairly low in popularity, so go ahead and grab all the discounted DLC.
In addition, Konami releases many retro collections and modern games that are conscious reminiscences of the beginnings of video games. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collectioncurrently costs $15 on Steam and Xbox and Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Collection can be picked up for $21. Even the latest Contra The title, a remake of the 1987 original, is also available in stores, as is a collection of previous games in the series.
There is also a Number of packages offeredbut the most important thing is the Castlevania Collection Packwhich contains about 20 packages Castlevania Games from the series’ decades-long history for $58.47. You see, there is a lot here and miraculously even more:
- CYGNI: All guns at full speed – $23.99 (previously $29.99)
- Against: Operation Galuga – $23.99 (was $29.99)
- Super Bomberman R2 – $29.99 (was $49.99)
- GetsuFumaDen: Immortal Moon – $14.99 (was $24.99)
- Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection – $3.99 (was $19.99)
- Contra Anniversary Collection – $3.99 (was $19.99)
Whether you fancy a stealth game, a 2D beat-’em-up, a damn good hack-and-slash game, or one of the foundational series of gaming’s most popular invented genre (Metroidvania), there might be something for you at Konami’s sale.
