Baldur’s Gate 3 has been out for a year now, and although Larian Studios won’t be releasing any large-scale DLC, the developer has continued to tweak the game with new cutscenes and options. A new update is set to arrive in September that will add new endings tailored to the nastiest adventurers among us. Larian has shown some previews of these nasty endings on Twitter, piquing fan interest.
Larian has been showing clips of some of these endings on Twitter, and they are truly devilish. One of them features Dark Urge, an alternate Origin playthrough that curses its companions to a terrible fate. For those of us who like to go for the evil playthroughs, it’s nice to see a little more variety in the endings. It feels great to rehabilitate Astarion and befriend Shadowheart, but sometimes you just want to watch the world burn.
The Dark Urge is capable of spectacular evil deeds, but don’t worry – the traditional player-created protagonist, aka Tav, can cause all sorts of problems for anyone. An evil Tav doesn’t have the same backstory or connection as the antagonists. Instead, they’re just evil for the love of the game, which I can respect.
It’s been interesting to see how Larian adapts the game post-launch. Originally, the Drow Minthara could only be recruited by throwing the poor Tieflings under the bus in the Emerald Grove. Thanks to a clever workaround, well-meaning players can now recruit her in Act 2. Some fans are still hoping for more additions here and there, like a forbidden romance with Gortash, but I’ll be happy with these new scenarios with an insidious ending to one of the best RPG stories of all time.
