Reports about a PlayStation 5 Pro have been circulating for some time. including specifications and release dateAlthough Sony is keeping quiet about the mid-generation update, more and more information is leaking out, this time about the latest update for No Man’s Sky.
The sci-fi survival simulation recently received a major Update of Worlds Part 1 on consoles and PC, and an apparent datamine of the PS5 update seems to reference Trinity, the reported codename for the PS5 Pro. This is according to modder ThatBomberBoi (via Insider Gaming), who recently provided a glimpse into what appears to be the default graphics settings for No Man’s Sky on the upcoming hardware.
There is not much to be deduced from a comparison with the existing graphics standards for the game on PS5. The most obvious changes according to the datamine are that the dynamic resolution scaling will go from 0.6 to 0.8 and the graphics details will go from high to ultra high. From all this it is impossible to deduce how much better a game like No Man’s Skywhich was originally released on PS4 will look good on a PS5 Pro, but it certainly doesn’t seem like the new hardware will be a huge leap.
That was the conclusion from the reported specificationswhich indicate a slightly better CPU and a significantly more powerful GPU. A first analysis from Digital Foundry speculated that for simulation-heavy games like Grand Theft Auto 6a PS5 Pro would certainly improve performance, but wouldn’t come anywhere close to 60fps in 4K. In that respect, the new hardware sounds more and more like a PS4 Pro, which offered improvements but didn’t feel like an essential upgrade.
The other big question about the PS5 Pro, however, is when it will actually launch. With the base model celebrating its fourth anniversary this fall, the timing is perfect for a refresh, potentially unveiled at or around a potential September unveiling. In fact, Sony did exactly that with the PS5 Slim last year, announcing it just a month before it went on sale. No Man’s Sky Datamine suggests that developers are already preparing for his arrival.
